Salt Lake City, UT - The Utah Department of Health (UDOH) is taking The TRUTH about tobacco to high-risk youth through a sponsorship at Brighton Ski Resort in a creative approach: The TRUTH is using chairlifts as a marketing tool. Funny cartoon strips featuring talking cigarettes with captions that educate about tobacco's ill effects can now be found on chair safety bars at the Utah ski and snowboard resort.

Alta, UT - On January 15, 1939, 350 skiers enjoyed the slopes of Alta for the first time. Back then, lift tickets cost $0.25 per ride, or $1.50 for the entire day. The original Collins Lift was the first chairlift in Utah and one of the first in the United States.

Snowbird, UT - Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort crossed over the 200-inch season-to-date snowfall mark this week thanks to 29 inches of new snow that has fallen since the skies opened Monday.

Eden, UT - Powder Mountain's Night Jam competition series will begin January 7th and will continue to be held on the first and last Wednesday of each month through March. The terrain park competition is held under the lights at the ski resort's Sundown Terrain Park from 4 to 9 p.m. There is no registration or entry fee, but of course a valid lift pass is required.

Twenty-three states are offering special learn to alpine ski, snowboard, cross-country and snowshoe packages to locals, and Ski Utah's 13 member resorts will once again be offering special beginner deals with their Lucky 13 promotion.

Alta, UT - Utah Mountain Adventures (formerly Exum Utah Mountain Adventures) and Alta Lodge are once again offering two clinics this season that include a four-night and two-day Backcountry Clinic. Participants will learn about avalanche awareness, beacon rescue, safe route selection, efficient skinning, and downhill ski technique in the legendary Wasatch backcountry. After a day of skiing in the backcountry, clinic participants will come back to the warmth, convenience, and fine dining of Alta Lodge, owned and operated by the Levitt family since 1959. The clinic dates are January 28 to February 1, and April 1 to 5, 2009.
