"Stop-and-go market conditions remain mostly unfavorable as mountain destinations move closer to their prime booking season," says Ralf Garrison, author of the monthly Monitor produced by the Mountain Travel Research Program (MTRiP). "Indicators are switching between moments of destinations seeing a green light and wanting to hit the gas pedal followed by a rapid change to a red light and the need for an immediate stop—marketing travel these days is like rush hour traffic."

Snowbird, UT - The perennial favorite Snowbird Rock & Blues Festival is fusing its traditionally star-studded musical lineup with some exciting changes for 2009: this year's event is expanding to three days over Utah's Pioneer Weekend, July 24-26, and moving outdoors to the Little Cottonwood Canyon ski and snowboard resort's new Peruvian Terrace venue.

Park City, UT - On Friday, a 500-ton crane lifted Swiss-crafted funicular cabins onto the tracks to nearly complete North America's first ski resort funicular railway at Deer Valley Resort, near Park City. The funicular will link Deer Valley's Snow Park base area with the new St. Regis Deer Crest Resort under construction higher on the ski mountain.

Park City, UT - On July 1, Stein Eriksen Lodge Management Corporation entered into a long-term agreement to manage The Chateaux at Silver Lake. Stein Eriksen Lodge Management Corporation will immediately begin managing the rental and lodging operations of the property at Utah's Deer Valley ski resort including reservations, conference services, sales and marketing. The two hotels will continue to maintain their individual and unique brand identities.
