Brian Head, UT - Brian Head Resort in southern Utah this week opened two revamped terrain parks, Junkyard and Progressive. Between the two parks, there are many new beginner, intermediate and advanced features, likely something for every rider and freeskier in the family.

Denver, CO - In the most recent data released Wednesday by the Mountain Travel Research Program (MTRiP), the upward trend in lodging occupancy at ski and snowboard resorts across the western U.S. continued for January with the average actual occupancy at more than a dozen major western mountain destinations up 5.8 percent in January 2011 compared to the previous January. A retrospective of the past six months, August through January, showed average occupancy up 9.4 percent and nightly rates essentially flat, up 0.4 percent.

Just like no two snow flakes are exactly the same, no two snowstorms are exactly the same. Most resorts report the number of inches of new snow accumulation, which of course is the major data point for most people. However, savvy skiers know that new snow depth is just one guide of how much fun you'll have on the hill. Another very important aspect is the density of new snow, which is different for each snow storm. Low density, fluffy snow can often make the best memories, but it's also somewhat rare.

Brian Head, UT - Celebrating both its scenic setting and the prodigious amount of "The Greatest Snow on Earth" it receives annually, Brian Head Resort (BHR) in southern Utah is hosting a "Best Picture and Video Contest." The resort will award winners for both the best photo and the best video on Apr. 1 during Brian Head Resort's annual Spring Carnival. Both the best still picture and best video will earn season passes for both the remainder of this winter season and for the 2011-12 winter season.

Denver, CO - Lodging occupancy at more than a dozen major western ski and snowboard destinations was up 8.9 percent in December 2010 compared with the previous year, according to the most recent Mountain Travel Research Program (MTRiP) report. This marked the fourth consecutive month for a year-over-year increase in the participating mountain resorts and helped boost the occupancy figures to an overall 10.5 percent increase during the past six months, July through December.
