Salt Lake City, UT - While some forsythia plants are already blooming in the Salt Lake Valley, Utah ski resorts are blanketed with their deepest snow bases of the season. Some are already planning to keep the lifts turning into May and beyond.

Salt Lake City, UT - On April 3, the Utah Avalanche Center (UAC) announced that it had reached the end of its funding and it would be closing for the season. The problem is, with deep late-season snowpack, the backcountry itself is still open for business. Without their expert information on current avalanche and weather conditions, thousands of backcountry users in Utah face a higher risk of accident, injury or even death due to unstable snow conditions and avalanche. To Park City-based online outdoor retailer Backcountry.com that fact was hard to swallow, so the company stepped in with a solution.

Park City, UT - Park City Mountain Resort has extended its 2010-11 ski and snowboard season by an additional week until Sunday, April 17. Resort officials have now announced pricing and lift operations for the final week of the winter season.

Salt Lake City, UT - SheJumps, a 501c3 nonprofit based in Salt Lake City, is in the midst of its third season of (S)heJumps Into the Canyon: Empowering SLC Teens in the Wasatch (SJIC). SJIC brings inner city teens from Salt Lake into the mountains to experience skiing with help from passionate professional and recreational female athletes for four sessions in March, plus one in April. The goal of SJIC is to introduce these teens to an otherwise out-of-reach, affluent sport and to share the stories of local skiers who have chosen to make skiing an everyday part of their lives.
