Salt Lake City, UT - Each year, avalanches claim more than 150 lives worldwide, and many more are caught in the "White Death" but survive. In recent years, these numbers have been increasing due to the boom in outdoor recreation. Skiers, snowboarders, hikers and other backcountry recreationists are drawn to the mountains, where they can potentially trigger avalanches as they cross hazardous terrain. Most of these avalanches occur from December to April, and it is imperative that these outdoor enthusiasts to be equipped with the proper gear to help increase the odds of surviving an avalanche, and the knowledge of how to use it.

Oberstdorf, Germany - The U.S. Ski Jumping Team's Lindsey Van, a resident of Park City, pushed her competition up a notch, landing on the podium in third place in a Continental Cup competition Saturday in Germany. She paved the way for three of her teammates to finish in the top 20 in Van's first podium performance since an injury sidelined her last season.

Park City, UT - Deer Valley Resort has been honored with being named the #1 ski resort in North America by the readers of SKI magazine for the second year in a row. Neighboring Park City Mountain Resort has once again been ranked a top five ski resort for the third time in the magazine's reader survey since the 2004-05 winter season.
