Park City, UT - Ski Utah held its annual media appreciation day last Friday. The day started with a wonderful morning of powder skiing at Park City Mountain Resort featuring 17 inches of "The Greatest Snow on Earth." After skiing, local media were treated to a delicious lunch at the world's only slopeside gastro-distillery, Hight West Distillery in Park City, where awards were presented to the Journalist of the Year, Harriet Wallis, and Weather Enthusiast of the Year, Brett Benson.

The Excellence in Journalism Award is given to a person who has excelled in snow sports journalism. Freelance writer Harriet Wallis has demonstrated her passion for snow sports through writing for several years. Along with writing the “Let’s Go” column for The Valley Journals, numerous North American SnowSports Journalists Association western division (NASJA-West) newsletter articles and cover stories for Professional Ski Instructors of America's (PSIA) instructor magazine, Wallis has also helped many resorts with their writing needs. Wallis was instrumental in the creation of the Ski Utah 2010 Media Menu and Winter Vacation Planner.

The Weather Enthusiast of the Year award is given to the weather person who best shares their love of snow and snow sports with their viewers or listeners through their forecasts. FOX-13 (KSTU) meteorologist Brett Benson has done an exceptional job positively promoting snow, and has encouraged resorts to adapt innovative uses of video and imagery.
