Snowbird, UT - The Snowbird Renaissance Center's Annual Backcountry Awareness Fundraising Party will take place from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, following a pair of free avalanche awareness clinics during the day.

The Fundraising Party will be held in the Golden Cliff in the Cliff Lodge at Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort. Hors d'oeuvres, beer and wine will be provided along with music from Rex & Kevyn, a short presentation and silent auction.

“Fundraisers are a crucial element in supporting the Friends of the Utah Avalanche Center (UAC) with their ongoing outreach and education initiatives, which directly help to inform all backcountry users how to recreate safely in Utah's mountains,” said Craig Gordon of the UAC. “We hope to see lots of old and new faces up at Snowbird for what is sure to be a fantastic event.”

Tickets cost $50 per person, and may be purchased online at www.snowbirdrc.org/20092010-events/16/35-backcountry-awareness-week.

In conjunction with the event, the Snowbird Renaissance Center and Wasatch Backcountry Rescue will be holding two 2-hour classes on Feb. 6 on basic to intermediate backcountry skills. These classes will meet in the Alpine Room on Level 2 of Snowbird Center. The first class will meet at 9 a.m. and the second class will meet at 1 p.m. Bring a transceiver if you have one and be prepared to go outside. There is no charge for these classes, however, donations are welcome and encouraged.
